Paul Chambers: Corridor of Stability
This wonderful 2011 John McDonough piece in Down Beat pays tribute to the man deserving of MVP on more great jazz albums than anyone, except possibly, Billy Higgins. Paul Chambers had a small but beautiful sound on bass and an exemplary choice of notes. His rhythmic feel was perfect and his solos, both arco and pizzicato, were wonderful. (Yes, bass solos can be wonderful – especially his!)
